Alexis Moody Appointed as IT Director

Erina Chavez has resigned as IT Director and Alexis Moody has been appointed as the new IT Director effective immediately.

“Alexis did a tremendous job in quickly developing our very popular Referee Hub and I’m excited to see what she can do at the helm of the IQA’s IT department,” said Interim Executive Director Andy Marmer.

This year the IT department will be starting many new initiatives.

“We’re excited to bring new life to the main IQA site, along with improving and adding features to the Referee Hub,” Moody said. “We’re always looking for ways to use technology to build a better and stronger quidditch community, so stay tuned for some exciting projects in the not so distant future.”

Moody started quidditch in 2010, so she has seen the sport change a lot over the years.

“Watching the sport grow and evolve has been remarkable,” Moody said. “My favorite part about quidditch is the absolutely dynamic gameplay. It’s chaotic for sure, but there’s a level of beauty in that chaos I haven’t seen in any other sport.”

Moody joined the IT Department last year and has contributed immensely in developing the Referee Hub.

“Developing and maintaining the Referee Hub with the rest of the developers over the past five months has been awesome,” Moody said. “There’s always room for improvement, but being able to positively impact the IQA referee experience has been a true joy.”

Outside quidditch, Moody works as a senior software engineer for a startup in Washington, D.C. After learning to code in 2015, she started to imagine how technology could make quidditch more accessible.

Besides using her coding skills to develop quidditch, Alexis is very inspired by “those who defeat the odds to fight for/do good for others.”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Malala are two of her favorite examples.

She shares the same spirit while volunteering for the IQA: “Knowing that I have the ability to make a positive change for a global community is probably my favorite part,” Moody said. “Also, working with so many passionate and talented people. We all love this sport and slowly but surely we are turning this ship in the right direction.”
